How to Maintain Blonde Hair for Summer

Whether you’ve opted for a subtle blonde balayage this summer or gone full platinum, maintaining your blonde can be tricky. You want your blonde bright, sunny and vibrant in between salon visits, but bleaching your strands will inevitably leave them dry and brittle. We’ve got the tips you need to keep your blonde hair bright all summer long.

Wash your hair less.

Washing everyday can leave your blonde dull and lifeless. Cutting back on shampooing is crucial to keeping your colored hair healthy and vibrant. Stick to three times a week and use Davines Hair Refresher on your off-days to absorb excess oil and add volume. For more on washing, see our previous post "Are You Washing Your Hair the Right Way?"

Use a color safe shampoo and conditioner.

Make sure to stock up on shampoo and conditioner from our Minu line, formulated specifically for color-treated hair. Davines Minu Shampoo (winner of Self Magazine's 2015 Self-Approved Beauty Awards!) uses caper blossoms to gently cleanse, protect and extend the lifespan of your colored hair. Davines Minu Conditioner is an illuminating protective conditioner, and this year’s winner of "Best Conditioner" in Byrdie's 2019 Eco Beauty Awards.

Alternate with a color boosting shampoo.

Keep brassiness at bay and maintain your golden blonde with Davines Alchemic Shampoo Golden. Maintain your platinum blonde with Davines Alchemic Shampoo Silver. The Alchemic shampoos, used once a week in place of our Minu Shampoo, enhance the clarity and tone of your blonde.

Use a hair mask.

Bleached blonde hair deserves some special treatment. Particularly in terms of hydration (damage repair) and color protection (fade resistant, color-depositing effects). Davines Minu Hair Mask is designed to deeply nourish colored hair without weighing it down, while also making it soft, silky and bright.

Limit sun exposure and use SPF

Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can damage your hair’s cuticle. Damaged hair is not only dull and lifeless, but won’t hold a curl or style. Grab your hat when you’re outside in the sun and be sure to coat your hair with Davines SU Hair Milk before a day at the pool or beach.

Use a shine enhancing product.

Shine oils, sprays and waxes have light reflecting particles to illuminate your locks. Make Davines Oi Oil, This is a Shimmering Mist or This is a Shine Wax your last step when styling to add brilliance to your blonde.
