FAQs
What are the benefits of using hair moisturisers?
Hair moisturisers help define curls and waves while taming frizz and adding shine. Some specific hair moisturiser products can also provide hold and protect against heat and environmental stressors. They hydrate and soften hair while adding flexible styling control. Our OI All In One Milk detangling hair moisturiser is just that—an all-in-one treatment that provides all these benefits and more.
What type of hair do hair moisturisers work best for?
Hair moisturisers work well for most hair types but are especially beneficial for curly, coarse, thick, or dry hair that needs extra moisture and definition. colour-treated and otherwise damaged hair receive replenished moisture from a moisturising hair cream, helping repair it from chemical processing. Those with fine or oily hair typically benefit from more lightweight conditioning treatments.
How do I use hair moisturisers properly?
For cream hair moisturisers, apply a nickel to quarter-sized amount of product from mid-length to ends on damp, freshly washed hair. Gently scrunch or rake through with fingers to evenly distribute and enhance natural waves or curls. Let air dry or diffuse. For hair moisturisers that come in a spray formulation, apply 10-15 sprays after towel drying your hair and then style as desired. Hair moisturisers are designed to dry into your hair, so there is no need to rinse after applying.
How often should I use hair moisturisers?
Different hair types require individualized hair moisturiser products and applications. For hair that is very curly, wavy, or dry, we recommend using products from our LOVE Curl line at least every other day, if not daily. If your hair is highly processed or damaged, we recommend products like those in our NOUNOU line between two and four times weekly. Thick, coarse hair types also benefit from hair moisturisers being applied two to four times a week, using products like those in our LOVE Smoothing line. For otherwise normal hair, hair moisturisers can simply be used as needed for a boost in hydration to maintain balance.
Are hair moisturisers different from leave-in conditioners?
Yes. Hair moisturisers are intentionally thicker and richer than leave-in conditioners, making them ideal for locking in moisture for deep hydration. On the other hand, leave-in conditioners aim to provide immediate hydration while helping detangle hair. Hair moisturisers are often designed for hair that is textured or dry due to their heavier consistency, while the lightweight formulation of leave-in conditioners works well for all hair types.
